Arita Porcelain and Calligraphy

Combining traditions leads to a future of beauty.

We discover fundamental beauty in harmony with nature.

Nature is constantly changing, with no single thing the same as another.

Each and every thing found in nature is beautiful.

We, Shiseido, have also always held respect for nature and its unwavering values.

In fact, Shiseido's name derives from the philosophy of Banbutsu Shisei (Praise the virtues of the great Earth, which nurtures new life and brings forth new values).

On the Arita porcelain, created from clay and fire, the calligrapher has brought to life the Japanese character for "beauty," creating a dynamic, vibrant landscape that tells the story of the boundless possibilities of beauty.

A new beauty was created by combining the traditional Arita porcelain technique of texturing with Japanese paper and the dynamic and unique calligraphy of a calligrapher.

By overlaying the lines of the 150th anniversary logo mark on top of this, we aimed to create a soft, supple, yet powerful expression that represents a new step forward as a new image for Shiseido.

The package is a white box with a plain, elegant look, wrapped with handmade Japanese paper and mizuhiki in the corporate color, on top.

The 150th anniversary logo was watermarked on the Japanese paper using a traditional technique. The soft texture of the paper is a tribute to the history of the 150th anniversary.

When the box is opened, a bright blue and a bowl wrapped in thin blue paper appear.
