SWEET YARN
WINDOW OF SHISEIDO PARLOUR

Display x Craft

SPACE/VMD/WINDOW DESIGN

The window display, "SWEET YARN," draws inspiration from the concept of Display x Craft and is entirely handmade, incorporating techniques such as spinning raw wool into "art yarn" and utilizing various hand weaving methods like "sawori-ori." The display on the large window depicts a motif of the Shiseido heritage, the arabesque pattern, with sweet treats adorned with flowers. The small window is adorned with a "sawori-ori" fabric inspired by Shiseido Parlour's packaging. Each creation is meticulously crafted, emphasizing the careful work of spinning, knitting, and weaving, akin to making sweets. You can also enjoy videos showcasing the process of each work on the monitor installed in the small window.

SWEET KARAKUSA

We have created a representation of the karakusa pattern, reminiscent of sweet confections, to evoke the ambiance of a parlor. The yarn used in this display is a sustainable material that can be unraveled and endlessly regenerated, making it environmentally friendly.

As a tribute to the packaging designed by Mr. Masayoshi Nakajo

We have woven fabrics using the "sawori-ori" technique that aligns with the unique charm of each package design. This design embodies the fusion of Craft x Display.

Spinning by hand, knitting by hand, and weaving by hand—these analog processes feel refreshingly new in the digital age.
